Teachworks supports a wide variety of methods for billing students. The billing method for a student is set on the student's profile in the "Billing Method" field. You can find details about each of these methods below:
Service List Price - Hourly Rate
You can charge students at an hourly rate based on the cost set in your Service List. You can do this by setting the "Billing Method" field on a student's profile to "Use Service List Price".
If you charge your students per lesson and not hourly, you will need to determine the hourly rate that equates to the lesson cost and set this rate on the service in your Service List.
Student Hourly Rate
You can charge students at an hourly rate based on the cost set on a student's profile. You can do this by setting the "Billing Method" field on a student's profile to "Set Price on Student Profile" and then specifying an hourly cost.
If you charge your students per lesson and not hourly, you will need to determine the hourly rate that equates to the lesson cost and set this rate on the student's profile.
Package Billing
You can provide your clients with packages of lessons/hours that they can use over an undefined period of time. If you have clients that purchase packages, you should set the "Billing Method" field on their profiles to "Package".
In order to create a package you can follow the steps below:
- Click on "Billing" and then click on "Create a Single Invoice".
- Using the dropdown menu in the invoice items section, select the "Add Package" option.
- Select the package service type and then enter the amount of lessons/hours and unit cost.
- You can then "Save" or "Approve" the invoice.
Once the invoice has been "Approved", the packages will be available for the client to use. With this billing method, the lesson costs are set to zero automatically, as the student is being billed for a package of hours and not individual lessons.

Flat Fee Billing
You can charge students a flat fee for a set amount for any number of lessons they'll be taking over a period of time. You should set the "Billing Method" field on a student's profile to "Charge Flat Fee" if you plan on using this billing method.
When you generate an invoice, use the "Add Charge" option in the invoice items section to enter a charge. With this billing method, the lesson costs will be set to zero automatically, as the student is being charged a flat fee for lessons.

Cost Premium
An extra billing method that can be applied to students' profiles that are billed at an hourly rate using the service list cost or the hourly cost set on a student's profile is the Cost Premium. This allows you to add an additional flat fee to each lesson's hourly cost. Cost Premiums are not affected by the duration of the lesson. This is most commonly used for charging students that require a teacher to travel a longer distance to meet.

Discount Rate
For any students billed at an hourly rate from the Service List or the hourly cost set on a student's profile, you can assign a discount that will be applied to all of their lessons. For the Package and Flat Fee billing methods, you can set the discount rate when you create invoices for the client using the "Disc %" field.
